Author(s): Peter Sturmey

Many individuals with autism do not talk and those who do often have great difficulty, with limited vocabulary and speech that is difficult to understand. How can they make their needs known without words? This book explains what verbal behavior is, and how parents and practitioners can teach the individual to use four verbal operants:

  • Mand (request)
  • Tact (naming, labeling, and commenting)
  • Echoic (imitation)
  • Intraverbal (answering questions)

    Includes information on reinforcers.
